I wanted to document the old Fourche Maline Creek Bridge on US-271 before it's replaced and gone forever.

This steel truss bridge was built in 1948 and has carried travelers, log trucks, families, and generations of Le Flore County residents across Fourche Maline Creek for nearly 80 years. Long before modern highways and GPS, this bridge was already connecting communities throughout southeastern Oklahoma.

ODOT plans to replace the aging structure, which means this piece of local history will eventually become just a memory and a photograph. Whether you've crossed it a thousand times or only noticed it in passing, it's been a familiar landmark for generations.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to capture it before it disappears from the Oklahoma landscape forever.
