Gorgeous weather in front of this storm! Here's our top 10 list to get ready:
1. Stock Up on Non-Perishable Foods
Get the basics: canned goods, granola bars, and peanut butter. Sure, you could grab some fancy snacks, but during a hurricane, practical wins over gourmet every time.
2. Charge Your Devices (And Donât Forget the Power Banks)
Phones, tablets, laptopsâcharge them all! Youâll want to stay informed and maybe binge that last episode before the Wi-Fi goes out.
3. Water, Water, Everywhere
Fill up bottles, pitchers, and even your bathtub with water. Bonus: the tub water can be used to flush the toilet. Fancy, huh?
4. Laundry Sprint
Wash all the clothes you can before the storm. Nobody wants to wear that one shirt they hate for three days straight when the powerâs out.
5. Get Flashlights, Not Candles
Candles may seem cozy, but theyâre a fire hazard. Flashlights are a safer option, and you wonât need to explain to the insurance company why your âromantic lightingâ caused a bigger disaster than the storm.
6. Create a Storm Playlist
Keep spirits up with music. Make a playlist of calming tunes or your favorite upbeat songs to pass the time and drown out the wind.
7. Secure Outdoor Furniture
Bring in or tie down patio chairs, tables, and potted plants. Itâs great to have a backyard, but not when itâs trying to relocate to your neighbor's roof.
8. Stock Up on Batteries and Backup Lighting
Make sure you have enough batteries for flashlights and radios. And if youâve got some extra string lights, hang them up for a little storm ambiance!
9. Fuel Up
Fill your carâs gas tank in case you need to evacuate, and top off any gas cans for generators. Youâll thank yourself when the lines at the gas station are a mile long.
10. Plan for Boredom
Books, board games, and puzzles are your new best friends. Keep them close by, because after the storm, you might be living a Wi-Fi-free life for a while!
