The Federal Reserve just raised interest rates by 25 basis points (0.25%) for the first time in over 3 years, citing increased concerns over inflation. The last time they raised rates was July of 2023. Interesting news for the multifamily space as the industry has long been hoping for some reprieve from relatively high rates. This prolongs, or even worsens, the foreclosure epidemic, especially in places like Texas, where loan defaults are at an all time high.
Bad news for borrowers, good news for savers.
