This is exactly why a “quick look” inspection doesn’t cut it.
At first glance, this basement bathroom looked normal. Toilet, sink, vanity, finished space — nothing crazy.
But when we traced where the toilet was actually discharging, we found it was draining into what appeared to be a standard sump pump basin.
That’s a major problem.
A toilet should not be discharging into a typical sump pump setup. Wastewater from a toilet needs to be handled by a properly sealed sewage ejector system designed for sewage, solids, venting, and sanitary waste. Otherwise, you can end up with sewer gases, contamination, pump failure, backups, and a very expensive mess.
And here’s the thing: this is the type of issue that can easily get missed if the inspector doesn’t slow down and actually follow the system.
Most people see a toilet flush and say, “Yep, it works.”
We want to know where it goes.
That’s the difference.
At First-In Home Inspection, we don’t just check boxes. We investigate the house like we’re the ones buying it.
Buying a home? Don’t gamble on the cheap inspection.
