I, Carl Cyrius, get recommended a lot as a credit repair professional. Sometimes on people post I dont even know. There are also other people that sometimes gets recommended on the same post. In general, competition is healthy for a free market. But in this industry, it's best that my fellow professionals practice a collaborative approach. We get enough of a bad wrap as it is for things other people have done. I also believe in the practice of policing our own. But sometimes I clearly see that there are some impostors amongst us. This post is to help the general public that may need the services I provide along with many other legit companies. I hope it helps you differentiate the Real from the Rest.
Here are 10 tips to keep in mind that should raise some concerns at least when you hear them:
1) “We can delete anything” – Not true! There are items, which cannot be deleted. You won’t know until you’ve relentlessly attempted to do so. Even though you can end up being compensated for some negligent or willful disregard of the laws in place to protect you.
2) “We can delete accurate information” – This can be misleading information. If the item is questionable, thats a different story and you can dispute it. If it is verified as accurate with all entities, you will likely not be able to delete it. If you are persistent, you never know… it could fall off but probably not.
3) “We will get you ### credit score” – Again, misleading. Credit scores constantly fluctuate and there are many types of credit scoring model. No one can never guarantee to reach a specific credit score!
4) “We guarantee the item will be deleted” – As a credit repair professional, i can do everything within my power to delete the questionable and inaccurate negative information, with persistence and pressure I'm usually very successful in removing most of it, but there is NO GUARANTEE that ANY specific item will be deleted. I like to use an analogy I call my daughter Blaire and the chair, to explain this to any customer or client. Blaire will do anything with a chair but sit in it. I can do all I can to attempt to get her to sit in the chair, but first she has to decide that she will listen and comply. How can anyone guarantee you that they'll make some huge corporations do anything?
5) “We guarantee you will be approved for a loan” – I am a credit repair pro, not a loan company and do not know what guidelines their lender has for approval. Approvals are usually based on many factors outside just the credit report such as income, assets and down payment. With that being said, I can't absolutely ever guarantee that a consumer will be approved for any loan!
6) “We can clean up your credit fast” – This usually refers to either false claiming being a victim of identity theft. The real process takes time, persistence and pressure and even in the most ideal circumstances; most clients take 6-12 months to complete credit repair. Be realistic - most of the time, the issues didnt happen overnight so they won't be resolved overnight.
7) “We can solve all your credit problems” – Refer back to number 1,2,and 4 above. That should be a big red flag.
8) “We are attorneys” – That's very common fron MLM people. Or, their lawyers will handle it. I could go on about this but let's just leave it at that.
9) “We use loopholes” – We do use consumer protection laws such as the FCRA to audit the credit bureaus. If the bureaus can’t verify the information, accordibg to the law it must be deleted. This is not a loophole, its knowledge and persistence.
10) NO Absolutes - To protect yourself from being scam. Pay attention to "absolutes" languages. Here are some words that give the impression that something is definite or guaranteed. When you hear them, ask for clarification:
Guarantee – Definitely – Certain – Convinced – Positive – Surely – Undoubtedly – Absolutely
