🎄✨ It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Valley County✨🎄

The snow has fallen, the lights are twinkling, and it’s that special time of year when our community gathers to celebrate. Where do we all meet around the holidays? Around the tree, of course! And with our lush, mountain forests, McCall is the perfect place to find a fresh, natural Christmas tree that’s both renewable and biodegradable! 🌲

Before you set out on this holiday adventure, here are some handy tips for finding your perfect tree in the Payette National Forest:

1. Grab a permit: Pick one up at the McCall Payette National Forest office for $10 (limit: 3 trees per family).

2. Timing is key: Mid-November to mid-December is prime time for freshness, as most cut trees hold their needles for 3-4 weeks!

3. Measure first: Trees look smaller in the forest but can feel a bit grand indoors. Measure your space before you go.

4. Expect a short hike: Trees must be cut 50 feet from the road, so plan to carry or drag your find back. Bring a friend to help!

5. For a fuller tree: Seek out trees in open clearings with plenty of sunlight to find one that’s lush and full.

6. Know your types: Spruces handle heavy ornaments well, while pines and firs bring a delightful aroma and softer branches.

7. Safety essentials: Bring your saw, gloves, sturdy boots, and avoid loose clothing—especially if using a chainsaw.

8. Embrace the wild look: Forest trees won’t be perfectly symmetrical, but with some trimming, they’ll be uniquely beautiful.

9. Shake it out: Forest trees can house critters, so give yours a good shake to keep them in the wild.

10. Enjoy the journey: Take your time! Walk around, breathe the mountain air, and make this outing a cherished holiday memory.

Happy Hunting and Happy Holidays, McCall!
