Dear President,
Donald J Trump
We, the Latino community of the United States, write to you today not as outsiders, but as proud citizens who have been a part of this nation for generations. Our men and women serve this nation with pride and valor, protecting its borders and defending its values. Our children grow up knowing no other nation than this — the land of opportunity, the nation where dreams come true, and where freedom stands at the forefront of our collective identity. We have not only come to this nation seeking opportunity; we have become one with it, contributing to its growth, strength, and prosperity.
As of 2024, we are more than 63 million Latinos living in this great nation, and our contributions cannot be overlooked. Latinos represent 14.7% of eligible voters and 29% of new jobs created in the past decade. Our community makes up a significant portion of the labor force, fueling industries across the country, from agriculture to technology. If Latinos were considered a separate nation, we would be the 5th largest economy in the world, surpassing even nations like the United Kingdom and India. Our economic impact is undeniable, as the Latino economy in the U.S. is valued at $3.2 trillion. Yet, despite this, we find our representation and influence in positions of power to be lacking. Our voices are often underrepresented in the halls of Congress and the executive offices, leaving our community’s needs and aspirations unheard.
It is time for this imbalance to be addressed. We come to ask for our fair share of what we put on the table, year after year. We seek recognition, not just for our hard work but for the positive impact we make in every sector. We call for programs designed to empower our communities, to lift them out of poverty, and to ensure greater access to education and economic opportunities. We want a level playing field to compete for better jobs and a higher quality of life. We do not want to be relegated to the role of a labor force, working in the undesirable and underpaid positions. We want to be leaders, innovators, educators, and entrepreneurs — to thrive in all sectors and contribute fully to this nation’s future.
We request your leadership in ensuring that Latinos are not just seen as a demographic to be counted but as a vital part of this nation’s future. We deserve the tools, the support, and the recognition that will allow us to reach new heights. The future of the United States depends on the inclusion and advancement of every community, and it is time that the Latino community receives the attention and resources needed to fulfill its potential.
We look forward to your response and to working together toward a brighter, more equitable future for all Americans.
Sincerely,
Raul Montalvo
