Scam Alert: Fake "Buyer" Zoom Call Attempting to Install Malware

Agents, please be alert.

Shortly after I entered one of my listings on the MLS, I received an email from a supposed buyer claiming they found the property on Compass and wanted more information. When I asked what details they needed, they said they were disabled and asked to meet via Zoom.

We scheduled a time, and they sent their own Zoom link. Before the meeting, I got a message saying my Zoom needed to be updated and provided a link to download the "update." Thankfully, my antivirus software blocked it! My IT technician confirmed it was an attempt to install spyware/adware on my computer.

Since then, I’ve received several similar emails from other “buyers.” I no longer respond, and I strongly urge everyone to be cautious if someone you don’t know asks you to join a Zoom meeting using their link or requests that you download any software or updates.

✅ Stay Safe Tips:

Always use your own meeting links instead of opening links sent to you.
Never download updates or software from an email or unfamiliar link.
Verify potential buyers directly through phone or your brokerage email.
Report suspicious emails to your IT or compliance team immediately.
