Turn your sound on for this one.
This man, who I don’t think I’ve ever seen at Trinity Café before, sat down and started playing. He warmed up with a few songs, and honestly, nobody paid much attention.
Then he started playing Lean on Me.
And the entire room seemed to stop.
People started singing, one by one, until eventually much of the back half of the room had joined in.
Lean on Me is always a special song. But let me tell you, when you’re standing in Trinity Café and hearing a group of strangers sing it together, it’s something else entirely.
I can’t even put the feeling into words.
I thought that was the end of the story.
Then on the ride home, my mom told me she had gone up to him afterward and told him how beautifully he played.
He looked at her and said, “It wasn’t me.”
She was a little confused and asked what he meant.
“It was God,” he replied.
Then he shared that everything had been taken away from him except his music.
Needless to say, there were a few tears on the ride home.
