The Boozy Pig will be opening today with a limited menu of soups and sandwiches (including our Cuban breakfast sandwich) to serve our community. We know that most of our neighbors are out of power. The staff who made it through relatively unscathed have come in to make sure we can take care of our neighbors. This weekend (Saturday and Sunday) we will have organic scratch donuts as a special treat. Old fashioned sour cream donuts, plain, glazed, and chocolate glazed. And chocolate chip cookies, too. We all need some comfort food right now ❤️

One of the things I cover in my book Becoming UnRefined is what true health actually means. It’s interesting that others are catching on as well. From National Geographic:
“We’ve been measuring BMI since the 70s—but is the flawed metric still helpful?
Our body mass index is categorized into underweight, normal, overweight, and obese based on data largely from white middle-aged men—decades ago.”
I’m so anxious to get this book out and into the publics hands. All of these myths need to be debunked for the health of everyone.

Strawberry balsamic crumb bars and chocolate hazelnut truffle tarts. Where can you get these? Why at The Boozy Pig of course! Gooey bars are in the oven, too!

Whew! I’m at 165 pages in the book with many more to go, but I’m getting there. While it is being proofed I will be creating nutrition labels for each recipe to insert before the final formatting. Getting so close!

How about an UnRefined Apple Cider Donut? I admit that there is one refined ingredient, apple cider. Kind of necessary for an apple cider donut. But otherwise this tender and tasty baked donut, spiced with Ceylon cinnamon and nutmeg, will satisfy your autumn sweet tooth without the refined sugars and fake “natural” sugars. Nothing but pure food here!

If you are near Gulfport and are looking for some fresh, scratch-made food Italian food, then drop into Pia's Trattoria. They actually have two spaces next door to one another. One is a very cozy space in an historic building, and the other offers patio or bar seating. Both have the same menu.
The pricing was amazing! I ordered the Shrimp Scampi, which was served over a bed of homemade linguini for only $26. Typically when I see prices like that I expect the quality to suffer, but that was not the case.
Larry ordered the Veal Parmesan (which is made with pasture-raised-with-mom veal), and our friends Liza and Andy ordered the Lasagna and the Quattro Formaggi (four cheese pasta dish). All of the dishes were well prepared and flavorful with the exception of the Formaggi. Unfortunately you could taste the béchamel more than the cheese in that dish, so just not something we would order again, but everything else was excellent!
We finished the meal with their house made tiramisu. Now let me tell you, I am a tiramisu snob. I make mine from scratch, including making the lady fingers, the mascarpone, and zabaglioni. Zabaglioni is a custard and not used in everyone's tiramisu, but it was the way it was taught to me years ago by a chef from Italy. Pia's does not use it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and it was far better than most out there.
Overall the entire experience was very enjoyable, from the food to the atmosphere, so this is definitely a place to add to your list of great places to enjoy in the Tampa Bay area!

This is the most luxurious bar of soap you’ll ever use, made by me and sold at The Boozy Pig. This is a true Florida farm-to-table butchery and cafe, so if you haven’t been, then you are missing out on some seriously good food and meats.

While the picture might not be appealing, the contents most certainly was. What you’re seeing on the cup is cardamom, one of my favorite spices. Shortwave coffee in Channelside Tampa is a gem! They make their own syrups using real ingredients instead of “natural flavors” (my phone autocorrected that to “natural fallacies” which is pretty spot-on). The resulting syrups have amazing flavor and no funny aftertaste. Obviously I had to try a cardamom latte and was not disappointed. If you’re in the area take the time to stop in. You won’t be disappointed.
