Calling ALL CITY OF TAMPA RESIDENTS! Are you are interested in promoting more AFFORDABLE, WALKABLE, AND MASS TRANSIT Friendly future for our city??? Please make sure you submit PUBLIC COMMENT FOR THE UPCOMING FUTURE LAND USE UPDATE! The link is below. PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING ANY/ALL OF THE FOLLOWING POINTS. Call me to talk about this stuff! It will shape our city for the next 100 years and is VERY important!
"Increasing of R-10 land use density in ALL areas within 3 miles of downtown that are not within Coastal High Hazard Areas to R-20 supports the following":
1.) Encourages higher density of development in areas that are less prone to flooding and puts less resents at risk for flooding events.
2.) Supports the Citywide Vision of TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT. Providing dense and diverse housing options such as townhomes/duplex/triplexes provides opportunities to allow residents to utilize transportation alternatives such as Trolly Car, Bus Service, Biking, Walking, and Rideshare resources. It provides alternatives to parking issues within the city while supporting pedestrian friendly street and public spaces
3.) Supports opportunities to build "Missing Middle Housing" alternatives. Increased density addresses our current HOUSING SHORTAGE AND AFFORDABILITY Issues, reduces urban sprawl/maximizes land use near transportation corridors, and creates more equitable, diverse, and sustainable urban environments that can better accommodate the needs of residents.
4.) Supports existing Land Use Policies:
- LU Policy 1.2.8: Promote a range of uses in close proximity to each other. These uses shall include, but are not limited to: mixed density housing with a variety of housing options, local-serving goods and services, civic uses, and employment generators.
- LU Policy 9.6.1: Encourage the development and retention of a diversity of multifamily housing types to meet the needs of Tampa’s present and future populations.
- LU Policy 9.6.4: Balance the objective to increase opportunities for new housing development to ensure adequate housing for Tampa’s residents with the equally important objective of ensuring that new development is compatible with neighborhood character.
- Supports: Sec. 27-244. - Tampa Heights Overlay District Development Standards. (c) Purpose and intent. The purpose of the Tampa Heights Overlay District is to guide future development. The intent of these standards is to promote the unique character of the area, support walkability, encourage transit-oriented development, and promote housing options.
