This one hits home.

I walked the halls of the Kennedy Center as a kid. Shows I helped produce played there. I took my husband there for his first visit, and we stood in the Grand Foyer under the bust of the man it’s named for.

That’s the ceiling that came down.

This isn’t a political video. I say the building’s name and nobody else’s, and I’d be saying it no matter who was in the chair. It’s about stewardship. Fixing the roof before the ceiling comes down. Keeping the people who know how the building works. Leaving a thing better than you found it, whether it’s a house, a board, or a building that belongs to all of us.

Thirty-two years in theatre taught me one thing for sure. Ceilings don’t fall on cue.

A closing I have been meaning to share.

Several weeks ago, I had the honor of helping two people I adore find their new home. Becky is very special to my heart. I have known her for more than 35 years, and I love her so very much, so this one meant the world to me. Becky and Aaron are a match made in heaven, and they are now settling into a home that is every bit as wonderful as they are.

Not long ago, Aaron trusted me with the sale of his childhood home. Then I got to hand them the keys to this fabulous new house. Getting to be part of both chapters means more to me than I can say.

A huge thank you to Gina Hill, the listing agent, who was the consummate professional and a pleasure to work with every step of the way. And to my dear friend and lending partner Erik Butzek with Custom Rate Mortgage for another slam dunk, with exceptional customer service and care from start to finish.

Most of all, thank you, Becky and Aaron, for trusting me with such an important milestone. Friendships like yours are the reason I love what I do.

The best way I know to honor them is to live the day they didn’t get. Check on a friend. Hug the people you love. Be gentle with a stranger.

Kindness is a small thing. It’s also the most human thing we have. Let’s carry it forward for them. 🕊️

This one’s serious. The funny stuff comes later this weekend.

I watched a stranger’s death get shrugged off online this week by someone with a big following. I watched other people cheer when a public figure they didn’t like was gone. I don’t understand it, and I don’t think I’m built for it.

But here’s the part that’s mine to talk about. That same instinct, in a smaller dose, walks into real estate deals every day. Buyers sure the seller is hiding something. Sellers sure the buyer is trying to steal the house. Agents sure the other agent is going to be a nightmare. Nobody has met yet. Everybody has already decided.
And agents, some of you are my friends, and some of what you’re posting is rough. Your clients are watching. The other side of your next deal is watching. They’re not thinking “what a passionate person.” They’re thinking “is this who I want negotiating for my family?”

How you treat a stranger, on a screen or across a closing table, says a lot about your character.

For God’s sake, stop wishing poorly on people.

What you post matters. Who you hire matters.

A friend told me this week that she knows how I vote. 🤔

She didn’t ask me. She told me.

She was wrong, by the way.

Here’s the thing about assumptions: the second you make one, you stop asking questions. You already have your answer. 🛑

Eleven years in real estate and I see it constantly. The client who only gets listings from the neighborhood an agent decided they belong in. The buyer who says three bedrooms and a yard and gets sent a townhouse. 🏡

Your job is to tell me what you want. My job is to listen. 👂

Assume less. Ask more.

I was driving home this afternoon when I picked up my phone at a red light. Dark background, white letters. A message from the family of Dolly Parton.

I didn’t have to open it.

I have never cried over a celebrity in my life. Not once. And I sat there at that light trying to work out why this one was different.

I think I know why. It took me a few hours and a camera to get it out, so I recorded it instead of typing it.

There’s someone else in this video. She isn’t famous. She’s the only other person I have ever known who lived the way Dolly lived, and I’ve been carrying her with me all afternoon.

Watch it when you have a quiet moment.
