The House and the Lake – A Story of Water, Light, and Time
The house stood by the water as a man stands by his boat, steady and sure, waiting for the right hands to take the helm. The lake was vast, stretching wide and deep, holding its secrets beneath the surface. The sun rose over it, golden and quiet, and set behind it, burning red into the horizon. Those who lived here would know its moods, its rhythm. They would wake to the ripple of water against the dock, to the scent of morning air rolling in from the shore.
The man who found himself here would understand what it meant to stand on the 40-foot deck, looking out over the stillness, coffee in hand, the world quiet but alive. He would know the way the dock felt beneath his feet, sun-warmed wood leading him to the water. The boat lift would hold his vessel, ready for the moment when the lake called him to its depths. The jet ski lift stood by, waiting for the days when the air was thick with adventure.
Inside, the house was strong. The ceilings high, the rooms open, the great 30-foot kitchen counter stretching long like the deck of a ship, meant for gathering, for stories, for the laughter of those who understood the pull of the lake. The fire in the living room flickered, soft and steady, like the glow of lanterns before nightfall. And upstairs, the primary suite opened to the water, two sets of French doors spilling out to the private deck, where the air smelled of lake and sky.
Next door, the second home sat with quiet patience, a retreat wrapped in warm wood and cool brick, waiting for those who sought peace. It could be a guest house, a place for friends who arrived with the tides, or a home for those who wished to stay, to live as the lake intended—simply, deeply, with the water always near.
And so, the house waited. Not for just anyone, but for someone who knew. Someone who would walk barefoot on the dock, breathe in the stillness, and understand that life, like the lake, is best when you know how to move with it.
