🌴 5 Famous Florida Keys Places That Take Me Back 🌊☀️

I moved to the in 1986, and every once in a while somebody mentions a place and you think, Wow, I had so much fun there!!

So let's take a quick ride down the Keys and see how many of these spots bring back some memories for you. 👇

🌴🍹 HOLIDAY ISLE & THE TIKI BAR —

Holiday Isle in the '80s and '90s was legendary. The Tiki Bar was home of the original , but that was only part of the fun.

There were boats, music, packed weekends, the legendary Bartenders Bash, bartending competitions and those famous bikini contests. 🍹👙

And who remembers Bimini Row? Those colorful little shops out on the point were epic. You could find Keys souvenirs, clothing and some of the tiniest bikinis around.

🦑🍽️ SQUID ROW —

Squid Row was just good old Islamorada. Fresh seafood, locals, visitors—and there was always someone you knew in the restaurant.

Here's a cool little piece of history: Squid Row's Continental Style preparation from 1992 is still served at the .

Today, Islamorada Shrimp Shack sits at the same location where Squid Row once did.

🍺🎣 PAPA JOE'S —

Papa Joe's was a LEGENDARY Islamorada gathering place.

From 1968 until 2006, fishermen, locals and visitors stopped in for lunch, came back after a day on the water for drinks and swapped plenty of stories. 🎣🍺

It wasn't a place designed to feel like the Keys.

It was the Keys.

⚓🌴 FARO BLANCO —

You couldn't miss that lighthouse.

During the '80s, Faro Blanco's marina, restaurant and bar were a popular Marathon gathering spot for locals, boaters and visitors.

Some famous faces became part of its history too, including and .

The lighthouse is still there, but those who knew Faro Blanco back in the '80s remember a different time in Marathon.

🌙🍹 FULL MOON SALOON —

was one of the familiar faces who spent time at the Full Moon Saloon, which tells you something about the kind of Key West place it was. 🎶🌴

Writers, musicians, bartenders, locals and all kinds of Key West characters mixed together there late into the night, playing music and making memories.

The Full Moon closed in 1993 after 16 years.

It wasn't trying to create a Key West atmosphere.

Those people WERE the Key West atmosphere.

If you’ve eaten at in , you already know this little spot at MM 87.8 has become one of those places you find yourself craving again. 😋🌴

And if you haven’t tried their Blackened Shrimp Rice Bowl yet… put it on your list! 🍤🔥 Seriously, it’s delicious. The blackened shrimp have just the right amount of seasoning and are served over a tasty rice bowl that brings everything together. Simple, fresh, full of flavor, and definitely one of our favorites! ❤️

But if you’re planning a Twisted Shrimp run this month, here’s an important heads-up! 📅👇

🚨 Twisted Shrimp will be CLOSED FOR from SEPTEMBER 8 through SEPTEMBER 24.

And they’re not just taking a vacation! 🔨🧹✨

While the doors are closed, the crew will be busy giving the restaurant some love — working on , doing a deep cleaning, and bringing in new menu plates. They’re using these slower September weeks to freshen everything up and make Twisted Shrimp even nicer for all of us when they reopen. 🌴🍽️

We always love seeing our businesses reinvest in their restaurants and get ready for another busy season. ❤️

We’ve been keeping you updated on the effort to bring commercial airline service back to , and there’s a new development that definitely has our attention.

✈️ is now officially part of the conversation.

has been talking with American Airlines about the possibility of bringing scheduled passenger service back to — with flights connecting Marathon to .

And this isn't just somebody throwing an idea out there.

American Airlines actually provided a letter of support that Monroe County included with its application for federal funding to help bring commercial airline service back to Marathon.

Now, before everybody starts packing their bags... 😂

👉 American Airlines has NOT announced that it is coming to Marathon.

But the fact that American is talking with the county and provided a letter supporting the effort certainly makes this a little more interesting.

American has indicated that connecting Marathon with its huge hub could fit well within its network. From Miami, travelers can connect to destinations all over the country and around the world.

And for those of us who live here, just imagine this for a minute...

Instead of getting up early, loading the car and making that long drive up the Overseas Highway to catch a flight in Miami, you could potentially start your trip right here in the . 🌴✈️

Monroe County is still working on funding and the airport improvements needed to make commercial passenger service possible, so there are definitely more steps ahead.

But after going without regularly scheduled commercial passenger flights since 2009, seeing a major airline like involved in the conversation feels like another encouraging step forward.

We’ll keep watching this one and keep everyone updated as we learn more. 👀✈️

Life can get heavy sometimes. ❤️

We get caught up in what’s going wrong, what we wish were different, what we’re worried about, and all the things we still need to figure out. And somewhere in the middle of all that, it’s easy to forget something incredibly simple.

We’re . 🙏

We woke up today and were given another day of our .

And maybe we don’t think about that enough.

It’s so easy to take an ordinary for granted. We complain about the traffic, the weather, the bills, the things that didn’t go our way. We spend so much time thinking about what we don’t have that sometimes we completely overlook everything we do have. ❤️

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be .

There is still a in the morning. 🌅 A breeze coming through an open window. A favorite meal. A conversation that makes us laugh. Music we love. The . 🌊 A beautiful . People we care about. And a thousand little things happening around us every day that we barely notice because we’re too busy thinking about everything that’s wrong.

Maybe isn’t always about fixing everything.

Maybe sometimes it’s simply stopping long enough to realize how much is already here. 🙏

There is no rewind button. We don’t get to come back tomorrow and live this day differently. And I think that’s something worth remembering when we’re tempted to let a bad moment become a bad day.

🚨⚠️ CONVICTED SEXUAL PREDATOR WITH THREE CHILD-MOLESTATION CONVICTIONS NOW RESIDING IN ⚠️🚨

This isn't a notification involving a single conviction or an unresolved allegation.

Robert Allen Brophy Jr., 68, is a convicted whose Florida criminal record lists THREE COUNTS of lewd or lascivious molestation involving a CHILD UNDER 12 while Brophy was an adult over 18.

He was found GUILTY/CONVICTED on all three counts.

Brophy has now registered as residing in , according to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to Department of Law Enforcement records, Brophy was convicted in Monroe County Circuit Court on March 18, 2003, in case number 01-00161.

His record lists THREE COUNTS of:

🚨 LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS MOLESTATION — VICTIM UNDER 12 YEARS OLD, OFFENDER 18 YEARS OR OLDER.

These are not allegations. They are convictions established in court.

Florida law defines lewd or lascivious molestation as intentionally touching certain intimate areas of a person under 16 in a lewd or lascivious manner, or forcing or enticing the child to touch the perpetrator.

The State of Florida formally designates Brophy a SEXUAL PREDATOR. This is a specific legal designation, and Florida law requires notification concerning designated sexual predators.

🔎 WHY ARE RESIDENTS BEING NOTIFIED NOW?

Brophy’s Florida Department of Corrections number is B01025. Records from the Florida Commission on Offender Review show Brophy involved in conditional-release proceedings during 2026, including proceedings in February and August.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is now notifying the that Brophy has registered in Marathon.

🚨 WHY THIS MATTERS

The record is clear:

THREE convictions.

A CHILD UNDER 12.

An ADULT offender.

A legally designated SEXUAL PREDATOR now registered in Marathon.

Those are facts , grandparents and anyone responsible for in our community deserve to know.
