Union County was officially established in 1856 and was created from parts of five neighboring counties—Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, and Knox. That's actually one of the reasons many historians believe it was given the name "Union County."

It's one more piece of East Tennessee history that makes this area so unique.
