California’s very first Smart Freeway pilot project has officially been switched on. 🚦

⚠️ This is not a City of Temecula project. ⚠️

Riverside County Transportation Commission installed new smart on-ramp meters at Tem Pkwy, Rancho Cal, & Wi******er Rd, which include traffic sensors & digital message signs intended to help reduce stop-and-go conditions on the freeway at a cost of $33 million (originally estimated to cost around $25 million).

According to RCTC, you may initially experience slightly longer wait times at the on-ramps, however, traffic flow on the freeway is expected to see improvements overall.

PROPOSED TRANSMISSION LINE PROJECT AFFECTING TEMECULA

The proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink project is scheduled for the City of Temecula's City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 26th @ 3pm (Item #19 on the Agenda):   https://temeculaca.gov
(SDG&E was invited to present information to the City Council, but indicated they are unavailable to attend on this date)

Project Details:

• 500-kilovolt transmission project
• Currently in early planning and preliminary design
• Construction projected to begin Fall 2029
• Service projected to start in 2032

Proposed Route:
• Orange County (Camp Pendleton) - new substation to be built
• Along 79 South in Temecula
• Close to US Forest Service & Bureau of Land Management land (Temecula, San Diego and Imperial County)
• Directly through Anza Borrego Desert State Park

(The exact route is subject to change and will be evaluated through environmental review and permitting processes.)
