Let's talk terminology

🏡 **DTI (Debt-to-Income Ratio)**

One of the biggest factors lenders look at when determining how much home you may qualify for is your **Debt-to-Income Ratio**, or **DTI**.

Simply put, DTI compares your monthly debt payments to your gross monthly income.

Examples of debt that may be included:
✔ Car payments
✔ Credit cards
✔ Student loans
✔ Personal loans
✔ Minimum monthly debt obligations

A lower DTI generally means you have more room in your budget and may qualify for more financing options.

💡 Here's the good news: Many buyers assume they won't qualify because of debt, but that's not always the case. Every situation is unique, and there are loan programs designed to help a variety of financial situations.

Before counting yourself out, have a conversation with a lender and learn what your options are!

A Backpack Is More Than a Backpack

For many children, the start of a new school year is filled with excitement, possibility, and hope. For others, it comes with a quiet worry: Will I have what I need when I walk into class on the first day?

The Harker Heights Police Department's Healthy Homes Program is once again stepping up to help local families through its annual Back-to-School Donation Drive. The Healthy Homes Program works year-round to connect families in need with resources and support throughout our community, and this donation drive is one more way they help ensure local children have the opportunity to succeed.

As a community, we often say that children are our future. This is our chance to prove it.

We want to challenge every person reading this post: the next time you're at Walmart, Target, H-E-B, or anywhere school supplies are sold, pick up one extra item. Just one. A pack of pencils. A notebook. A pair of scissors. A backpack. If each of us contributes something small, together we can make a tremendous difference for local students and families.

No child should start the school year feeling behind before they even open a book.

Donations can be dropped off at the Harker Heights Police Department at 402 Indian Trail Drive, behind the Library.

Together, let's show our children what makes Harker Heights special, not just the services we provide, but the hearts of the people who live here.
