Like “The Boss,” Jay Shapiro is Jersey “Born and Bred.” Unlike Springsteen, however, Jay doesn’t sing; fortunately, Bruce doesn’t market and sell homes in Bergen County. Jay does, however, and that’s why he uses his more than 25 years of experience and skills and living here to market and sell homes in the best interests of his clients. A firm believer that he is "only as good as" his last transac
tion, he doesn’t believe in the “hard sell'," and has a simple Mission Statement: "I want to help people buy and sell real estate and feel good about it!"
Although he takes pride in his technical skills, he’s quick to remind us that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” As a result, he seeks to use his skills and expertise to match his clients’ lifestyle with their real estate needs. Jay's personal interests are varied, but he and his wife most enjoy spending time with their family, especially at their shore house. Some of the things he loves:
Good times with friends and family -- He admits that he's proud of his kids and grandchildren, "almost to a fault". Jokes: (sometimes even "slapstick" -- he laughs a lot at his own mistakes (which can become a source of constant amusement); good puns (he's been told it its the lowest form of humor, but he loves good ones nonetheless); well-written comedy shows: "Taxi," "Cheers," "Modern Family," "Friends." TV shows: "Homeland," "Suits," "The Good Wife," "Game of Thrones," "The Newsroom," "Friday Night Lights"(in his opinion one of the best shows ever on TV and the best finale ever). Movies: "Rudy" (a great testimony to the human spirit), “Remember the Titans,” “ Little Big Man,” “Dances with Wolves,” “Brave Heart,” “Godfather I and II." Sports teams: University of Michigan v Ohio State or Notre Dame, The Giants and the Pats, The Yankees and the Red Sox (he knows they are deep-seated rivalries, but what he loves is that all of those teams give it their best, even in the last two minutes of the game or the bottom of the 9th) they play their hearts out; Jason Kidd and the old Nets; Jeremy Lin and the Knicks (for a moment in time) – because the were “team-players”. NPR: "This American Life," "All things Considered," "Car Talk," "Wait, Wait, Don't tell me." Heroes: He admires and like men and women with courage and principles; people who do their jobs well -- regardless of what it is. Music: his taste is eclectic; some Folk, Rock, R&B, "Golden Oldies," Beatles, Stones, Steely Dan, U2. Favorite Quotes: Abraham Lincoln: "When I do "good," I feel good. Maya Angelou, "When people show you who they are, believe them." Hobbies: Photography and hoping one day to play a decent game of golf, learning from other people and cultures, is adventuresome with food but has some favorites: various "ethnic" foods (Mediterranean, Indian, Mexican, Japanese and Korean). Pastimes: Making new and keeping old friends.
