🇺🇸 Beautiful Memorial Day Service at Riverside Memorial Park. Thank you to the American Legion for placing the flags and poppies, organizing and putting on this service every year. There were 100’s of people in attendance. Truly emotional listening to the speeches and reflecting on the sacrifices so many men and women made so we could enjoy our freedom today and for years to come.
🇺🇸 Today I learned a few facts about Memorial Day
🇺🇸The flag is to be flown at half-staff 8am-12pm. At 12pm the flag is to be briskly raised to the top of the staff to symbolize our nation’s resilience and determination to live on.
🇺🇸 In December 2000 Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act declaring Memorial Day not a day of celebration or parties but a day to Commemorate the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives. This law asks all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3pm for one minute of silence to honor the men and women who died in military service.
🇺🇸 Every visit to this beautiful peaceful cemetery brings tears and memories of my dad, Jerry Baker, Air Force Vietnam and my step dad Neal Hunter Army WW II. Thankful God blessed me with 2 amazing men who impacted my life beyond words.
