🏎🚦🏁The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” stands as one of the most legendary sports venues in the world. Since opening in 1909, the Speedway has become synonymous with speed, tradition, and American racing culture. Spanning more than 559 acres, the facility is anchored by its famous 2.5-mile oval track known as “The Brickyard.” While the track is now paved, a three-foot strip of the original brick remains exposed at the start/finish line as the historic “Yard of Bricks,” preserving part of the original 3.2 million-brick racing surface.
The Speedway also carries a deep local connection through its long association with the Hulman family, who owned and operated the facility for decades and played a major role in preserving and elevating its global legacy. With ties to Terre Haute, the family’s stewardship helped shape the modern identity of the track and its continued prominence in American motorsports history.
Beyond the track itself, the Speedway serves as a massive entertainment destination featuring grandstands, luxury suites, hospitality clubs, fan plazas, museums, golf facilities, concert venues, and festival spaces. The surrounding town of Speedway and nearby Indianapolis neighborhoods add to the experience with local restaurants, breweries, parks, and the revitalized Main Street district, making the area a year-round attraction for visitors and racing fans alike.
