Part 2: Social Quirks & Neighborhood Dynamics
Well, after the response to my last post, it turns out Iโm definitely not the only one scratching my head.
So here we go with Part 2 of Things About Life Here I Still Havenโt Figured Out:
1. The โFriendliest Hometownโ Paradox
Everyone happily waves as they pass you in a golf cart.
But ask someone to grab the mail, take the trash out, or keep an eye on the house while youโre gone, and suddenly you discover just how busy retirement can be.
Friendly at happy hour. Harder to find when the trash needs to get to the curb.
2. The โWhere Are You From?โ Interview
Meet someone new and within about 90 seconds, youโll probably answer three questions:
Where did you move from?
How long have you been here?
And the big oneโฆ north or south of SR 44?
Apparently, those three answers tell people everything they need to know about you.
3. The โYounger Crowdโ Debate
Whenever someone asks on social media where to live, it doesnโt take long before someone in the newer areas points out that their area has the โyounger crowd.โ
Then you realize someone who is 67 is calling someone who is 71 "old."
When exactly did four years become a generation gap?
Besides, around here, age doesnโt necessarily tell you much about someoneโs energy level.
Iโve seen people in their late 70s play 36 holes of golf, dominate pickleball, and close down the square while someone ten years younger is home on the couch by 8:00.
And somehow, both of them are probably having a pretty good retirement.
Even with the daily mysteries, itโs all part of what makes living here different.
Whatโs another local social habit that belongs in Part 3?
