For anything specific to your home’s systems, I recommend referencing the materials and guidance provided by the builder or manufacturer , as those will be tailored to your home.

Stay safe and warm!

Winter weather is on its way to Texas — and now is the time to prepare. DPS offers the following tips to help ensure your home is ready before and during the upcoming storm.

❄ Insulate outside faucets and pipes near outer walls.
❄ Make sure furnaces, heaters, fireplaces and wood stoves are clean, well-ventilated and in good working condition.
❄ Stock up on firewood and supplies, including canned goods, bottled water and medication.
❄ Keep space heaters at least 3 ft. away from walls and combustible materials, including furniture and bedding. Turn them off when you’re away or sleeping.
❄ To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, never operate a generator or other fuel-powered device inside a home, garage or other enclosed space.
❄ Never heat your home with a gas stove or oven.
