From Tammy McRae, Montgomery County Tax Assessor Collector:
If the floodwaters or harsh weather of the past few days damaged your home or business, you may be eligible for a break on your property taxes.
The tax break applies to regions of the state declared disaster areas by the governor. Governor Greg Abbott issued such a disaster declaration for 29 counties, including Montgomery County, on April 30.
People are eligible for the tax break if their home or business sustained at least 15% damage due to the disaster – a determination that would be made by the appraisal district,
Property owners must apply for the temporary exemption no later than 105 days after the governor declares a disaster. Form 50-312, Temporary Exemption Property Damaged by Disaster (PDF)
The deadline is August 13, 2024.
We understand this is a difficult time. For questions or assistance, please contact the Montgomery Central Appraisal District at [email protected].
We encourage you to act promptly if you believe your property value has been impacted by the recent storms and flooding.
