SafeHouse of the Desert

SafeHouse of the Desert is Coachella Valley's only 24/7 shelter for youth in crisis. Finally, a sense of relief...of hope.

We are a non-profit helping runaways, throwaways, and victims of human trafficking. Teens who don’t know where else to go are always welcome at our shelters—all they have to do is show up. Parents who are interested in early intervention are encouraged to call us to set up a screening for their child. At the screening, they meet with a Marriage and Family Therapist who tells them more about what they can expect to receive from our holistic approach and listens to the struggles they’re having.

📚 Community Outreach at La Quinta High School

We’re always working to make sure young people know help is available and how to access it. ❤️

Our Safe Place Coordinator, Birgit Phillips, recently visited La Quinta High School to connect with students and share information about SafeHouse’s programs and services.

Birgit provided students with information about the support available to youth in the Coachella Valley, including how to access services when they or someone they know needs help.

Sometimes, knowing where to turn is the first step toward getting help. We’re proud to bring that information directly into the community and onto school campuses. ❤️

🌟 Built to Win!

Our Operation SafeHouse leadership team had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Built to Win Leadership Conference in Riverside!

Kendra, Shawn, Sandra, and Rainbow joined fellow leaders for an inspiring day of learning, growth, and connection.

The conference provided valuable opportunities to learn about effective leadership, teamwork, communication, accountability, personal growth, and leading with purpose. Our team was challenged to think differently, reflect on our leadership practices, and consider how we can continue to grow as leaders and as an organization.

Leadership is an ongoing journey, and we are grateful for opportunities that encourage our team to learn, challenge ourselves, and become better leaders for the youth and communities we serve. ❤️

A special thank you to Seth Yelorda, Minda Harts, Myron Edmonds, and Michael Kelly for sharing your knowledge, experience, and wisdom.

🌟 SafeHouse is excited to participate in the HOPE Collaborative – District 1!

Our Executive Director, Kendra Tankersley-Davis, was proud to join fellow community partners and county agencies at this important gathering focused on keeping children and families safe throughout Riverside County.

As the Child Abuse Prevention Council, the HOPE Collaborative works collaboratively to ensure families feel safe, supported, and connected to the resources they need.

We are grateful for the opportunity to come together with community leaders who share our commitment to protecting children, strengthening families, and building a safer Riverside County. ❤️

At SafeHouse, we believe every young life has value, purpose, and potential.

The youth we serve deserve to know that they are seen, heard, supported, and cared for. Sometimes, simply being there, listening without judgment, and reminding someone that they matter can make a difference.

Today, and every day we work to “Change the Narrative on Su***de” and support the call to action to “start the conversation,” as we stand together to raise awareness, spread hope, and remind our youth: You matter. Your life matters. Your story matters. 💛

Let’s continue creating safe spaces where young people feel comfortable reaching out, asking for help, and knowing they are never alone.

📚✨ Back to School Night at Temescal Canyon High School! ✨📚

It was great to be part of Back to School Night at Temescal Canyon High School! Kendra and Eric were there representing SafeHouse, connecting with students, families, and school staff and sharing information about the mental health services available to high school-aged youth. 💙

Our mental health programs provide support to young people navigating stress, trauma, relationships, school pressures, and all the other challenges that come with growing up.

And the best part? These services are available to youth in both Riverside and the Coachella Valley. 🫶

We’re proud to be out in the community, making sure young people and their families know that support is available and they don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Join us on Saturday, November 7 for a fun, colorful 5K Run & Walk through Palm Springs and make your miles count for SafeHouse. ❤️

💙 SafeHouse in the Community!

Our Mental Health team recently joined other community organizations at Beaumont High School to connect with youth and parents, raise awareness about mental health resources, and introduce our new Blues Program!

The Blues Program gives young people a place to talk about what they're experiencing, build healthy coping skills, and get support before challenges become a crisis. 💙

We love opportunities to meet youth and families right where they are and we're grateful to Beaumont High School for welcoming our team to campus!

🌟 Connecting Youth to Community Resources

Our Street Outreach team was out in the community at the Riverside County Department of Child Support Services Family Support Resource Fair, helping connect families and young people with resources and services available throughout Riverside County.

Ashley Saldana, our Safe Place & Community Outreach Coordinator, represented SafeHouse at this great community event, alongside dozens of organizations working to support children, youth, and families. From housing and employment resources to healthcare, family support, school supplies, and other community services, the event brought valuable resources together in one place.

For our Street Outreach team, being present at events like this is about more than handing out information. It's about building relationships, knowing what resources are available, and making sure young people experiencing homelessness can be connected to the right support when they need it.

We love seeing our community come together to make resources more accessible to the people who need them most. ❤️
