In October 2020, Toledo City Council passed the Toledo Lead Safe Ordinance, requiring rental properties with 1-4 units built before 1978 to be lead-safe certified. Certification means a property has been inspected and proven to be safe from lead hazards, like peeling paint or lead dust.

Dear Lucas County Property Owners,

On November 28, approximately 2,600 reminder letters were mailed to owners of properties located in Phase 2 census tracts (due June 30, 2026) by the City of Toledo Lead Program. Below you will see a screenshot of a draft copy of the letters that were sent out. As a reminder, the first compliance deadline is approaching on December 31, 2025 for properties located in the Phase 1 census tracts.
