These photos capture just a few of the many moments of fun, connection, and discovery families enjoyed together today. A variety of activities kept the kids busy with something for everyone to explore.

As part of the Friday Update, we continue highlighting a few of the dedicated staff members who help make Lucas DD what it is.

May gave us a bonus round with five Friday Updates this month, which meant even more opportunities to celebrate the people behind the work. Throughout May, we featured Bridget, Kayla, Chris, Tina, and Mimi, recognizing their years of service, compassion, and the many ways they support individuals, families, and coworkers. Their stories reflect the importance of connection, growth, and showing up for others day after day.

Today, we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be closed May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

We had a great time with about 120 guests that stopped by our Bike Day event as part of 's Outdoor Discovery Day! Visitors learned about many options available that make the joy of riding bikes more accessible for everyone. Special thanks to our friends at , The Ability Center, Lake Erie West Regional Council, and Maumee Valley Adventurers for being part of the fun with us!

💡 Grant funding is available for Lucas County businesses, nonprofits, and providers!
The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities is offering two grant opportunities to help expand inclusion, accessibility, and meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities.
✔️ Up to $10,000 for Adult Day & Employment providers to enhance services
✔️ Up to $20,000 for businesses and organizations to add adult‑sized changing tables and improve accessible restrooms

Our work is about people—supporting individuals and families. From early childhood through adulthood, Lucas DD is helping build a future filled with opportunity, inclusion, and possibility.

What a fantastic week for Special Olympics Ohio -Lucas County!

Jake Sorosiak was recognized at the Annual Board Meeting on Tuesday for his outstanding dedication as a coach and volunteer. We appreciate your commitment to the athletes and congratulate you on this well-deserved recognition!

We’d also like to give a big thank you to the Glass City Wranglers for highlighting our NIRSA National Champions at their game, and for Amanda Fay, Anchor/Reporter of WTOL 11 for covering their story. We’re grateful for community partners who help shine a light on these incredible athletes!

From 12:30-4:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 28, Lucas DD phones will be turned off as our employees attend an all-staff meeting. General calls will go straight to the Lucas DD general voicemail box. If you use the system directory or call the direct line of the employee you are trying to reach, it will go to that person's respective voicemail box. MUI staff will still be on call for any Major Unusual Incident reports at 419-381-5206.
