WHAT WEIGHS 900 POUNDS?!?
Polar bears can easily weigh 900 lb and can weigh up to 1700 lbs! Touring Harley-Davidson bikes weigh 800-930 lbs!
The paint we removed from The Glenwood Terrace is estimated at 900 lbs! That'a a pile measuring about 6' x 6' x 3'.
Natural wood interior trim with a shellac finish is healthier, lower maintenance, and far more authentic than any painted surface.
What else weighs 900 lbs?

This steam cabinet I built with plans I purchased from OldeWindowRestorer.com is part of our strategy for authentic historic window preservation. The goal is simple: retain as much original material as possible and respect the way these windows were made.

Steam allows old paint and glazing to release gently, without aggressive scraping that can damage the wood or erase those small details that matter. It’s careful, deliberate, and focused on longevity.

If it also saves a little time and effort along the way, that’s just a bonus. And it does. 🤠

We’ve been renovating the Glenwood Terrace for several years, and much of this lengthy preservation is due to the painstaking removal of 115 years of paint. Every bit of woodwork throughout all 12 apartments had layers upon layers upon layers of paint. Did I mention it had layers?
We’ve got fixed woodwork like window frames, baseboard, and casing that required use of a heat gun before chemical stripping. Each unit has six or seven interior wood doors, and those 90 doors were dipped in a large vat of solvent at the Central Avenue Strip Shop in Sylvania Township. The steam cabinet we built represents an advanced strategy for the window sashes specifically.
According to my calculations, we have removed approximately 900 pounds of paint from the Glenwood Terrace!
From LANDLORD SPECIAL to low maintenance NATURAL BEAUTY! Additionally, we’re experimenting with heated glazing, and electric glazing applicators.
I’m in my happy place.
