As freezing temperatures move into the area this weekend, the City of Tomball encourages residents to take a few simple steps to help prevent potential water damage caused by frozen pipes.
๐ง Prior to the cold setting in, be sure to turn off and drain sprinkler or irrigation systems, disconnect and store outdoor hoses, and insulate exposed pipes. Residents should also identify where their main water shut-off valve is located in case of an emergency.
Visit irrigation.tamu.edu/winterization/ for additional details on irrigation winterization.
๐จ When temperatures remain below freezing, allow warm air to circulate around indoor pipes by opening cabinets and keep water flowing by allowing faucets to drip slightly.
โ If your pipes do freeze, shut off the water immediately. Use warm air to safely thaw frozen pipes and avoid open flames or unattended heaters. Once pipes have thawed, slowly turn the water back on while checking for cracks or leaks caused by freezing.
Stay safe and prepared by taking these actions to help protect your home and prevent unnecessary damage.
