Today, I had the privilege of delivering a check to a seller who now lives in a retirement community.

When I handed her the envelope, she smiled, pulled it close to her heart, and held it there.

And in that moment, I knew she was holding so much more than dollars.

That envelope represented a home filled with a lifetime of memories. Children coming in and out of the doors. A big family she helped raise and mother. Portions of the house built by her husband alongside his construction crew—many of them family. Time spent living next to her nephew and his family, and near her daughter and son-in-law.

As she held that envelope, I couldn’t help but imagine all that home had held.

Her husband lifting his hammer while she kept the books. The years of wondering whether the laborers were going to show up. The work, the worry, the raising of children, the ordinary days that somehow become the ones we treasure most.

And that kitchen table by the back door… I can only imagine how much joy, laughter, conversation, celebration, worry, and life happened around it.

Real estate isn’t rainbows and butterflies every day. Sometimes we’re helping people open the door to a new chapter, and sometimes we’re helping them gently close the door on one that held decades of their life.

Moments like today are a treasure to me, and I don’t take them lightly.

I walked away grateful that she trusted me with this small part of her family’s story and quietly praying that this next chapter brings her peace, comfort, and the beautiful reminder that while we may sell a house, the memories made inside of it always belong to us. ❤️
