Good news - Hurricane Florence spared the Nantahala area and Misty Lauel came through unscathed!
We are currently hosting a family from Charleston, SC, who are storm evacuees. Last week, we hosted a family who'd been vacationing in Hilton Head but had to leave early due to the storm. I have a lot of inquiries for a few days of vacancies next week as well. We're participating in the Airbnb "Open Homes" program that allows displaced folks to find temporary housing at low or no cost. I should mention we're no longer listed on VRBO (because of their unreasonable customer unfriendly policies) but you can find us on www.smbyo.com/1174 (a new booking-fee free site that serves the Smoky Mountain region) as well as on Airbnb, but I encourage everyone to either use smbyo or go to our website at www.mistylaurel.com Of course, you can always connect with us directly by email ([email protected]) or phone (850-528-6803.
Other news - we added HughesNet Gen 5 satellite internet at Misty Laurel this summer. I kept the slower Frontier DSL wi-fi too, so you'll have a choice of the free Frontier system (about 3 mbps) or the optional HughesNet wi-fi (about 25 mbps).
In addition, we've added a 1770 gallon backup water supply system at Misty Laurel so that even if the neighborhood has a temporary water supply outage, you won't have a problem as our system will keep a normal family going for at least a week!
I should mention the new owner of the Lake's End complex (restaurant, marina and real estate office) has done a lot to improve their facilities, with not only pontoon boats but also deck boats, ski boats, kayaks and canoes! We still offer either a free half-day pontoon boat rental or a free half-day guided fishing trip with Dale Raxter for week long stays!
