Reflection Post
On June 1, 2012, I was officially sworn in as a Realtor within my local board.
When I first got into real estate, I was humbled pretty quickly. It took me nearly six months to close my first transaction. I assumed friends and family would get me going, but I realized that wasn't exactly the case. Most people seemed to want a hybrid between experience and someone who was still "hungry," if that makes sense.
For the first few years, most of my business came from floor calls. What that was is at my previous office, agents would take turns being in the office during assigned windows and were responsible for helping with incoming calls and walk-in inquiries from interested consumers. All the agents in my office were assigned 2–3 shifts per month. I took every shift I could get. If someone needed coverage, I was the first to volunteer. Some months I worked 20–30 floor call shifts. I know because I tracked it and made it a goal each month to pick up as many shifts as possible. Looking back, I laugh because I'm pretty sure they changed the entire floor-call system due to me and a few other agents thinking it was unfair that I was always the first one offered those shifts when they became available.
The point is, I really did grind to get my foot in the door and did everything I could to become as experienced and as knowledgeable as possible.
Out of curiosity, I recently uploaded my transaction spreadsheet into ChatGPT and asked it to categorize where my business has come from over the years by percentage.
Nearly 65% of my business has come from referrals, past clients, and personal relationships.
When I add in Glen Lake, Grand Valley, volleyball, music, slow-pitch softball, and other community connections, more than 84% of my business can be traced back to relationships—many of them coming from activities that I genuinely love being a part of.
I didn't plan on making a post for my 14-year anniversary, but that statistic felt worth sharing.
Since 2012, I've had the privilege of helping more than 425 people and families buy or sell homes and land, equating to just under $122 million in closed real estate volume.
For everyone who has trusted me, referred their friends and family to me, liked my posts, shared a post, followed my page or simply mentioned my name to someone—thank you. I don't take any of it for granted.
Cheers to the next chapter.
