Peak season is over. Now comes one of the most important parts: understanding what actually happened.

A busy calendar is great, but occupancy alone doesn’t tell us whether a property reached its full potential.

This is the time to look deeper at how guests booked, which dates performed best, where revenue opportunities were missed, and what we can learn from the season as a whole.

Because those insights shouldn’t sit in a year-end report. They should shape the decisions we make for 2027.

Better pricing. Better restrictions. Better positioning. A smarter strategy built around how your property actually performs.

One of the easiest ways to underperform in shoulder season? Keep running your property like it’s still July.

The guest changes. Demand changes. Booking windows change. The reasons people travel change.

Your strategy needs to follow. That can mean adjusting rates, relaxing minimum stays on specific dates, changing how the property is positioned, or strategically promoting nights where demand needs support.

It doesn’t mean panicking and discounting the entire calendar the moment peak season ends.

Shoulder season isn’t failed peak season. It’s a different market and it needs to be managed like one.

Nobody travels just because they need somewhere to sleep.

We travel because we need a change of scenery. Because someone we love lives somewhere else. Because the kids are only this age once.
Because there’s a place we’ve always wanted to see. Because sometimes a few days away can feel much bigger than a few days.

We’ve had the privilege of welcoming people traveling for completely different reasons, to completely different places: from lake days in Northern Michigan to quiet mornings on the coast of Jamaica.

And that’s one of the things we love most about hospitality… destinations may be different, the reason for going is always personal.

Here’s to seeing more of the world. 🌎
