Downsizing? I just went from a 3500 square foot home to a 1625 square foot home. I'm going to give you some advice as a realtor and also as a seller/buyer. There comes a time in our life when we all need to downsize. Well I'm going to tell you your kids don't want your "stuff."They don't want China. They don't want furniture. They even told me , Mom get rid of your "stuff" And they used a different word other than stuff. So we don't have to do it when you're gone and I'm like, Where am I going? So what to do? Another great suggestion is Purge way ahead of time and then Purge again and then still thin the herd. And it is not easy to decide what to keep and what to not keep. Most of the furniture I had was not going to fit into the new house so I hired J and J to do an estate sale. That way they can get rid of stuff And I would not be dragging stuff back That was sentimental but I really didn't need. The most challenging part is family pictures. I have four kids. There's graduations, There's weddings, There's grandchildren, so I took them all out of the frames and I'm taking them to Staples for them to put them on a thumb drive. And one more word of advice because sellers ask me all the time. What should I do before I sell ? As a buyer I would now say don't do a lot because when I moved into my new house I repainted, I installed new floors, new kitchen, to make it my home. So price your house accordingly that the new buyer can do the renovations for themselves. That is the new generations' mindset , loads of updates with low maintenance . And one last word of advice. Don't rely on friends and family who say hey. I'll help you move. If you need anything just call me. Suddenly their phones don't work!🤣
