This past year I was offered a great opportunity to complete the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors (ECAR), Leadership Development Program. It was a deep dive into all the behind-the-scenes activities that most won’t see. We learned about all the programs that our local association has to offer and all the programs the Florida Realtors (FR) and National Association of Realtors (NAR) offer as well. It taught how information is gathered at the local level, the “ground truth” as it relates to the housing market and conditions in our local areas, and how that is passed up to the greater associations. The ground truth helps to drive policy efforts in the state of Florida as well as our nation's Capital. Toward the end of the program, we got to go to Tallahassee during the legislative session and see how much influence the real estate community has in the state of Florida, and how much we accomplished this year alone for Fair Housing, Affordable Housing, and other programs just to name a few. Upon graduation, we’re now eligible to serve as Vice-Chair, then Chair, of any of the Committees active under ECAR. Aside from being a member of the Commercial and Public Policy Committees, this week I’ll start my first official position as Vice-Chair of Fair Housing and Diversity.
