🚨 SCAM ALERT: IMPERSONATION OF LINCOLN COUNTY DEPUTIES 🚨
We have received reports that scam calls are circulating in Lincoln County once again.
Scammers are calling residents while impersonating Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies. They claim that you must withdraw cash immediately and deposit it into a Bitcoin ATM to resolve a legal issue, fine, or missed court date—or face immediate arrest.
THE LCSO WILL NEVER:
Call you demanding cash, gift cards, or cryptocurrency payments over the phone.
Direct you to use a Bitcoin machine to pay fines or satisfy warrants.
Threaten immediate arrest if you do not pay over the phone.
BEWARE OF SOCIAL ENGINEERING:
These scammers are sophisticated. They may know personal details—including the names of your children or family members—to create panic, build fake trust, and force quick decisions. Knowing your personal details does not make the call legitimate.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
Hang up immediately. Do not engage or argue with the caller.
Do not give out money or personal details.
Verify independently. Call the official non-emergency line for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office directly to confirm any claims.
