🌾 Supporting Alabama Agriculture Through Tax Relief

The Alabama Legislature passed legislation providing tax relief for key agricultural operations across our state by exempting certain energy usage from utility gross receipts and utility service use taxes. I was proud to be one of the sponsors of this bill to help Alabama farmers and agricultural producers keep more of their hard-earned dollars.

Beginning September 1, 2026, natural gas and electricity used in commercial greenhouses, pivot irrigation systems, and poultry houses will be exempt from these utility taxes. This change helps reduce operating costs for the men and women who work every day to feed our families and strengthen Alabama’s economy.

Key provisions include:
✅ Exempts energy used in commercial greenhouses, pivot irrigation systems, and poultry houses from utility taxes
✅ Helps lower costs for agricultural producers and family farming operations
✅ Does not apply to energy used in the production of industrial h**p or cannabis
✅ Includes a sunset date of August 31, 2029, allowing lawmakers to evaluate the program's effectiveness

Agriculture remains Alabama’s number one industry, and this legislation helps ensure our farmers have the resources they need to remain competitive while continuing to provide food, jobs, and economic growth for our communities.
