HYDROCARBON SPILL.

Here is the latest we are learning about the St. Clair River spill incident. This is per St. Clair County Emergency Management.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, as part of its regular monitoring, the Suncor Sarnia Refinery was alerted to a release of hydrocarbons. The source of the release has been identified and isolated. No injuries have been reported.

Suncor immediately deployed its response equipment including booms and vacuum equipment on the St. Clair River. We continue to work with local organizations on our response, who are assisting with shoreline assessment and air monitoring in the vicinity.

All appropriate regulatory agencies and local community organizations have been notified.

We will have more information as we learn about this evolving situation.

Minor to moderate geomagnetic storms are likely Thursday and Friday, thanks to a filament eruption on Monday, during which the sun shot a cloud of high-energy plasma toward Earth, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

That eruption is now ushering in the possibility that night skies in the U.S. could light up in greens, reds and purples for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Those in states such as Washington, Montana, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Maine are poised to see the northern lights this holiday weekend, and those in northern parts of Idaho, Wyoming, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire have a chance at seeing the aurora borealis as well, according to NOAA.

Residents in qualifying areas can apply to receive a rain barrel free of charge.

The City of Mount Clemens is collaborating with the Macomb County Department of Public Works to launch a rain barrel program in Mount Clemens. This program is designed to reduce Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO) in Lake St. Clair, aid in reducing local flooding issues and save the city from having to treat the stormwater. The rain barrels will save participating residents on their outdoor watering costs

These rain barrels are for personal use only. No resale is permitted. Unwanted barrels should be returned to the city.
