Gunnar the German turns 11 today! ✨
I’m not sure any words can fully capture who he is to us, but I’ll try. This year, our boy has moved through more challenges than most, with a new cancer diagnosis, two surgeries, and the ongoing work of caring for his aging back/hips with Michelle each week. Even still, he shows up every single day with that same openhearted and exuberant spirit he’s had since he was a puppy.
He barks at everything (and I do mean everything), insists on being included in every moment, and somehow manages to slow us down and anchor us all at once. Watching him with Naia has been one of the greatest gifts of our life, as he’s so incredibly gentle, patient, and endlessly loving with her. He’s understanding of her needs in ways that feel as if he’s been preparing for this chapter all along.
There’s something quietly profound about the way he moves through the world now. His body has changed and aged, but his presence has only deepened. He teaches us to live in the moment, to choose joy even when the road feels uneven, and to keep loving fiercely no matter what comes our way. He continues to shepherd us through our own lives, not just as our dog, but as a teacher, a friend, and a reminder of what matters most in this existence.
We don’t know what each new season will bring, but we do know this: Gunnar is still here, still bright with life, still full of heart, and still leading us with that ever-loyal GSD spark.
Here’s to 11 years with our special guy, and to whatever beautiful, ordinary, extraordinary moments still lie ahead. We love you so very much, Gunnar. ❤️
