I can’t post about Tucson’s historic neighborhoods in December without including Winterhaven 🎄✨

The unique community of Winterhaven was developed between 1949–1961 by developer C.B. Richards, who envisioned a neighborhood inspired by Midwestern charm—wide, curving streets, expansive green lawns, and non-native trees. Among its 265 Ranch-style homes, Winterhaven features four distinct architectural subcategories: Traditional, Modern, Minimal, and Transverse. Many homes were designed by Anne Jackson Rysdale, one of Tucson’s first female architects.
Winterhaven is perhaps best known for its beloved Festival of Lights, which has been held every December since 1949, inspired by similar displays Richards saw in Beverly Hills. Today, it’s a major annual holiday tradition that draws visitors from across Tucson while collecting donations for the Community Food Bank.
