“I was born a Jew. I didn’t pick it, and I’ve never hidden it.”

🏅 We are honored to present our Upstander Award to musician for standing proudly and publicly with the Jewish people, and for calling out antisemitism when it would have been easier to stay quiet.

Earlier this month, rapper Macklemore turned his opening set at Ed Sheeran’s MetLife Stadium concert into a platform for his anti-Israel activism, in front of families who had come to hear music. Pink shared a post objecting. For that, she was unfairly hit with thousands of angry comments and calls to boycott her.

Then, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, she answered in her own words. Macklemore, she wrote, “took the mic to tell all of the Jews in the stadium that it wasn’t about them. You don’t get to decide that for us.” She repeated her position from October 2023: “Hamas is a terrorist organization.” She said protecting innocent life “comes first, everywhere,” and highlighted her decade as a UNICEF ambassador and the children she has grieved on both sides. And she made clear she would not be pressured into saying anything she doesn’t believe: “I’m not going to recite anybody’s slogan to earn back a follower.”

Speaking up for the Jewish community has become exceedingly rare in the music industry. Pink did, with courage, honesty and humanity. As she put it: “I’m standing up for my own people.”

With so much gratitude and admiration, Mazal tov, Pink!
