The **Gila monster** is one of Arizona's most fascinating residents—and one of only a few venomous lizards in the world!

Here are a few cool facts:
🧡 Their bright orange and black pattern warns predators to stay away.
💤 They spend up to **95% of their lives underground**, so spotting one is a rare treat!
🎂 A Gila monster can live **20 years or more** in the wild.

If you're lucky enough to see one, admire it from a safe distance. They're protected in Arizona and play an important role in our desert ecosystem.

🐗 **Arizona Wildlife Fun Fact!** 🌵

Think javelinas are wild pigs? Think again!

Javelinas (also called **collared peccaries**) are actually more closely related to **hippos** than pigs. 🤯

A few more fun facts:
🌵 They have poor eyesight but an incredible sense of smell.
👨‍👩‍👧 They travel in family groups called **squadrons**, usually with 6–12 members.
🌼 Their favorite snacks include cactus pads, prickly pear fruit, roots, and mesquite beans.

If you happen to see one, enjoy it from a distance—and remember, never feed wildlife. It keeps both people and animals safe.

🌵 **Arizona Fun Fact!** 🌞

Did you know the iconic **saguaro cactus** grows incredibly slowly?

🌱 It may take **10 years** to grow just 1 inch.
🌵 At around **50–70 years old**, it begins growing its first arm.
🏜️ A mature saguaro can live **150–200 years** and store hundreds of gallons of water after a good rain!

These amazing giants are found naturally only in the **Sonoran Desert**, making Southern Arizona one of the few places in the world where you can see them in the wild.

Every time you drive past one, you're looking at a living piece of Arizona history! 💚
