A sight Tulsans have never seen until this week: Water in Zink Lake.
Decades of planning and waiting for a new recreational attraction in Tulsa’s portion of the Arkansas River will be over come Labor Day Weekend 2024 when the lake and Tulsa’s new pedestrian bridge, Williams Crossing, will open.
Today, officials moved the gates up to allow water to start filling the lake so the City can start the process of testing the gates of the newly built Zink Dam. In the coming weeks and months, the City will conduct operational tests of the whitewater flume and other various procedures in the lake before it opens. During this time, lake levels will vary as different gates are opened and shut for testing.
❗️What to Know: Zink Lake is NOT open, yet, so please stay out of the water and keep your distance. Various recreational opportunities (think canoes and kayaks) will be available when it opens, but nothing is available right now.

Clarification - March 5: This is the first time Tulsans have seen water impounded in the new Zink Lake after years of planning. This portion of the Arkansas River has not held water in years due to dam gates that were non-functional. When filled, the new Zink Lake will extend further than the old one ever did due to heightened gates, and will be a few feet deeper. The new Zink Lake will also have new amenities and built features that the old lake never did.
