A septic system can work perfectly for years, then behave very differently when a larger family moves in.

That is exactly what happened in this fictional Oklahoma acreage story. The previous owner had no obvious problems, but a family of six brought more showers, laundry, dishes, and daily water use than the existing system had been handling.

If you are buying acreage, do not stop at, “Has the septic ever had a problem?”
