For decades, 22 acres of lush hills and valleys sat vacant as part of north Tulsa died from lack of development. Antoine Harris and his company, Alfresco Development, have a plan in place to develop a hotel and two mixed-use retail buildings at 36th Street North and MLK Jr. Boulevard. “Once we...

The Greenwood Market Place design concept was submitted by 5G Studio Architects as an entry for the 2014 Texas Society of Architects (TSA) Studio Awards!

The TSA Studio Awards recognize innovation and excellence in design for projects that go beyond the boundaries of architecture by addressing current critical issues. Greenwood Market Place qualifies on several fronts. First, the project honors the rich and tragic history that is Greenwood while repurposing and restoring the historic Tulsa Ironworks facility. It reconnects Greenwood to the old "Black Wall Street" wealth, while connecting the community, city, and region into the global wealth machine of fresh food. Second, the project combats Tulsa North's 14-year shorter life expectancy compared to the balance of Tulsa. Intensive and diverse education, healthy lifestyle immersion, and affordable direct access to quality, toxin-free fresh food is a staple of the business behind the proposed development. Tulsa will enjoy the cooking classes, events and recreation focus of the public market, and will greatly benefit from the culinary diversity afforded by the many internationally designed food kitchens. Third, empty-nesters and graduate students alike will enjoy the lifestyle intersection the affordable living offers at Greenwood Market Place. The mix of residential and recreation retail will undoubtedly create a destination space for all Tulsans, as well as a destination for the southwest region. Last, the development brings the largest and fastest growing industry to Tulsa. The hundreds of direct permanent jobs the development creates will drive the southwest region's "Capital of Fresh Food" for years to come; securing living wages and stimulating entrepreneurial opportunity for decades. Not to mention that the development also incorporates a pretty cool design concept.
It is a victory just to be considered for the TSA Studio Award. Let's hope and pray for a great result. The southwest region awaits.

As Tulsans working to develop integrated, public spaces throughout the city, this TED talk inspires us to continue working toward building a more cohesive community. Amanda Burden, former chief planner of New York City, goes in depth about how public spaces make cities work.

More than 8 million people are crowded together to live in New York City. What makes it possible? In part, it’s the city’s great public spaces — from tiny pocket parks to long waterfront promenades — where people can stroll and play. Amanda Burden helped plan some of the city’s newest public spaces,…

May 31, 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Riot. While this occasion is nothing to celebrate, we would like to commemorate the success of Black Wall Street by hosting the International Public Market conference right here in Tulsa. Help us make this a possibility by sharing this post.

Below is a picture of the inside of the Evans/Fintube site at its current state as well as a rendering of what it will look like after it becomes the Greenwood Market Place!

Greenwood Market Place, incorporates the nation's highest need and fastest growing industry of fresh food with an affordable live-work-play community. ACDC has proposed this development on a abandoned 21 acre site in Greenwood, and is currently awaiting the City to turn over the land. The project will create several hundred direct living-wage jobs for the community, and includes intensive education to ensure maximum community impact for all facets of the development. Direct access to affordable housing and fresh food are only a few of the benefits of the project. Greenwood Market Place also offers ongoing education on all of the latest techniques in urban farming, fresh food preparation, and creates numerous opportunities for entrepreneurship. Consequently, the project creates, in Greenwood, a nationally recognized "capital of fresh food" for the southwest region of the USA.
