Congrats to my friend Sarah on the grand opening of a new location for in Oakdale! We’ve been friends a long time, and it’s just so cool to see her business and her family doing so well.

If you’ve paid attention to my recent posts and stories, I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’ve been attempting to highlight some of the small businesses in our area, and to really make local shopping a bigger part of my own life. I believe in it. I think that the Central Valley has so much to offer, and not just in agriculture. It’s always been easy to say you support small business, but growing up I’d see business after business start up, have a moment of brilliance, and fade away. Yes, it still happens, but I feel it happens less now. I think our Valley residents are “putting their money where their mouth is” and choosing to keep their dollars local. It’s encouraging to see!

Just wanted to share a few of my favorite spaces around the house…each one featuring great furniture from my friends at . I originally planned to have a Chesterfield sofa in the office, but the vibe was leaning a little simpler than that, and Jenny at Rustic suggested this elegantly weathered leather sofa instead - the perfect fit.

Our home is quite open and bright, and all that light allows dark walls and furnishings to feel rich and a little moody, while avoiding dreariness. Continuing the navy paint in the dining room and adding the heavy circular table and chairs (also Rustic Roots) makes that space feel intimate, and cozy in an upscale way, a perfect place to enjoy a steak and some wine with a few friends.

The barstools are the final showcase here. The kitchen is so spacious, and when we moved in, the walls were as white as the countertop. Navy again worked well with the gray cabinetry, and the barstools give a needed bottom weight to the whole area.

The point of this post is to highlight just how nicely a room can be appointed without a computer, shipping times, and all your money going to a billionaire somewhere. Local businesses like Rustic Roots are where it’s at! So get out there and treat yo’self!
