Last Nights City Council meeting in Orange was great! We not only had a full house but the overflow room was filled up. There was overwhelming group of supporters to protect the Mills Act, people’s investments and property values, preserve our historic homes and keep the City of Orange a charming landmark. We had so many speakers on behalf of supporting the Mills Act Program until 10pm. It’s you all that make the difference when you stand up for protecting and preserving. There were 45 comments posted on the City’s website under the agenda all opposing.

‼️Mills Act Under Threat! URGENT MEETING TONIGHT

We need your help through an Immediate Call to Action!!

Tonight (May 14, 2005) the Orange City Council is considering placing a moratorium on the Mills Act program. In response to the City’s pending budget shortfall, the Mills Act is being threatened by potential changes to both existing and future Mills Act contracts. While most recognize that cuts will be required to bring the budget inline, to-date the City has provided no significant studies in regard to any economic impacts associated with the program. The California Office of Historic Preservation recognizes the Mills Act program as “the single most important economic incentive program in California for the restoration and preservation of qualified historic buildings by private property owners.” Utilizing this program, 100’s of property owners in the Orange have invested $100,000’s into historic properties. Such investment helps to stabilize older neighborhoods and helps to maintain high property values while also preserving our city’s unique and irreplaceable heritage. We need your help in urging the Council to carry out comprehensive studies that measure the program’s fiscal impacts and benefits before considering any changes.

Please attend tonight’s Council Meeting and let them know that the Mills Act program deserves more evaluation before it is subjected to substantial changes!
