ACTION ITEM- RE: DRAFT BOF FIRE SAFE REGULATIONS, EXAMPLES OF HARDSHIPS AND BURDENS NEEDED BY JANUARY 30TH.
TCAR Members we need your help in providing specific examples to the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection (BOF) on how the proposed fire regulations will severely impact property owners throughout much of the state. We would like to be able to give concrete examples of real people, who are either currently (or in the near future) going to have to meet the proposed requirements and will not be able to do so for whatever specific reason(s). Basically, we are trying to create a narrative, where we can point to the proposed language and explain how the regulations will impact real life situations.

C.A.R. is opposed to many of the revisions to the proposed State Fire Safe Regulations, proposed by the BOF. The revisions would impose incredible economic and logistical burdens on homeowners and communities that are already seeking to meet multiple existing fire-safe and wildfire-reduction standards that have been implemented over the past few years. These Fire Safe Standards apply to over a third of California’s total land. The DRAFT regulations will deprive existing owners the right to access and use their properties, exacerbate the massive housing shortage, and ultimately drive-up housing prices throughout the state.

Despite multiple letters and advocacy efforts by C.A.R. and other coalition partners, the current draft regulations do not address some of our major concerns. C.A.R. legislative advocate, Jeli Gavric, has a meeting early next month with the BOF and she would like specific and detailed examples of how the proposed regulations will burden individual property owners.
