If you’re wondering what’s going on with the new STVHR building and management in YV, Joshua Tree, and 29 Palms, check out Fieldtrip Hospitality located in Yucca Valley. There are 2 2-story homes and three single-story homes in Indian Cove, 29 built to operate as STVRs. There is a cluster of homes in South Joshua Tree near Sierra built to operate as STVRs. Many more have already been built or are in the planning stage.

29 Palms City Council is taking a second look at homes built to operate as an STVHR and two-story homes in Indian cove, 29. Thank you to our new City Council member Octavious Scott for your vote to review. It looks like Scott's vote is changing decision-making in 29 palms. I hope Scott (Libertarian) continues to take a critical look at irresponsible growth in the city of 29 Palms. This is a tiny step forward. There is no guarantee when it comes to the City Council of 29 Palms. Fieldtrip Hospitality might be disappointed with the final decision or the city of 29 palms could rubberstamp all Fieldtrip vacation home rental permits.

An effort to ban most short-term home rentals in La Quinta was leading Tuesday night by about 700 votes.

Measure A, which was up 55% to 45%, would see the city join others in the Coachella Valley that have banned most or all short-term rentals.

Too little Too late SB County. What is going to happen to the 30% STVHRs in Joshua Tree and high numbers of seasonal rentals in unincorporated areas of the MB? Are you going to Continue to renew permits. Do you plan on adding limitations? I’m not understanding why this took so long. Joshua Tree is already oversaturated and locals cannot find affordable rentals or homes.💰💰💰💰

Unincorporated communities in the mountain and desert regions of San Bernardino County, including Joshua Tree, Morongo Valley, Landers and Big Bear City, will be affected.

Almost all gentrification comes from outside developers. What will it take to convince developers that what makes any neighborhood culturally significant is its people and history?

City of 29 Palms votes YES on STVHRs Fixed cap of 500 STVHR permits.

The original petition for limitations on STVHRs was submitted by Preserve 29 Palms to the 29 Palms City Council over 2 years ago. It's been a long hard struggle, but we finally have an answer. Thank you to Preserve29Palms and 29 Palms Neighbors for all your hard work.

The 29 Palms City Council voted 5-0 last night to enact limits on STVHRs.

For details check out the Desert Trumpet Newsletter published by 29 Palms Neighbors https://www.deserttrumpet.org/p/news-brief-city-council-enacts-limits?s=r](https://www.deserttrumpet.org/p/news-brief-city-council-enacts-limits?s=r)

"Advocates of limits applauded after the unanimous vote.

Here’s a quick summary from Desert Trumpet of what was decided:

Fixed cap of 500 permits. The cap will be reevaluated based on housing statistics in the 2030 census.

Limit of 5 permits per entity, based on financial interest.

“Use it or lose it” clause: Permits will be withdrawn if inactive, permit holders much show 1 night of rental per year to retain permit.
STVHRS have a 1 night minimum rental (this was changed from 2 night minimum)

The current STVHR count is 264 active permits; 122 pending permits; 61 closed.

The second reading of the ordinance may take place as early as the next City Council meeting on May 24, and the revised ordinance would take effect 30 days after that vote."

Fixed cap of 500 permits to remain in place until 2030

City Council to address the recommended changes to the STVHR Ordinance on Tuesday, May 10th @ 6:00 PM.

Final city council meeting to discuss vacation home rental limitations will be on Tuesday, May 10th 6:00 PM @ City Hall.

from a 29palms neighborhood group.

MAY 10 IS THE NOW OR NEVER MEETING.

Council will listen to public comment and make their decision at the next meeting. The revised short term rental ordinance becomes law 30 days after Council approval.

Residents need a cap on permits and a limit on the number of STVHRs one person can operate. We also need density limits, but they are not in the current ordinance....demand that Council add them.

The residents who show up are the residents that Council listens to! If they are all STVHR owners, then that's all Council will hear. So if you absolutely cannot attend hand a statement to someone who can read it for you.

*IMPORTANT* If you've been kicked out of your home because your long term rental was flipped into a short term vacation home rental, please come to this meeting and tell your story to City Council! And if you know someone who was kicked out, tag them on this post! Some Council Members do not look at FB groups like What's Going on in 29 Palms. The only way they are going to hear these stories is if people go to Council and tell them.

“29 Palms Community Development Director Travis Clark has confirmed the receipt of a pre-application for the development of a 218 acre parcel bordering Joshua Tree National Park in Indian Cove.

The pre-application package, submitted on March 24 by Wilshire Group LLC represented by Joubin Sedgh includes a preliminary plan designed by Land Studio. The proposed development consists of 55 units with amenities including a restaurant and bar, a café, a gallery, indoor and outdoor art installations, specialty shops, a pool and a clubhouse.

It was standing room only in the Wonder Valley Community Center yesterday as residents gathered to watch a presentation from developers of The Wonder Inn, a planned resort that has drawn the ire of locals who say it will bring environmental damage, additional traffic, and light pollution, all while
