Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a powerful reminder of freedom, resilience, and hope.

Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, many enslaved people in Texas did not learn they were free until June 19, 1865, when Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced General Order No. 3, declaring that all enslaved people were free.

Juneteenth commemorates that historic day and honors the strength, perseverance, and contributions of African Americans who helped shape our nation. It serves as a reminder of both how far we have come and the importance of continuing to pursue unity, opportunity, and equality for all.

As we reflect on our shared history, may we celebrate the blessings of freedom, embrace one another with compassion, and look forward with hope to a brighter future.
