Homestead Exemption

Texas now requires homeowners to verify their homestead exemption every 5 years to maintain tax benefits.

If you receive a verification notice from your county appraisal district, respond promptly to avoid losing your exemption and facing higher property taxes.

Since you've lived in your home, almost 5 years, I recommend that you reach out to your Appraisal district directly as opposed to waiting on them to give you the information. That way you can verify all of your exemptions to get the best property tax savings.

If you get a letter from your appraisal district asking you to verify your homestead exemption, don't ignore it. Those who don't respond could end up losing their exemption and paying more in taxes. Here's what you need to do.
